In 2022, Mwatana provided legal support to 915 victims of detention and disappearance and Contributed to the Release of 384 Detainees

Mwatana for Human Rights said that the organization's lawyers, in 18 Yemeni provinces, provided legal support to 915 cases of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance including 36 women and 63 children. And contributed to the release of 270 detainees including 10 women and 16 children during the period from January 2022 to December 2022.

Bonyan Jamal, Director of Mwatana's Legal Support Unit, said that Mwatana provided legal support through male and female lawyers to detainees held by: the Ansar Allah group (Houthis), with 403 detainees, and the formations of the Southern Transitional Council, 204 detainees, and the internationally recognized government forces, 170 detainees, the Hadrami Elite 51 detainees, the Saudi and UAE-led coalition forces 38 detainees, the joint forces in the West Coast 27 detainees, unauthorized individuals 12 detainees, the Shabwa Defense Forces 9 detainees, and Al-Qaeda one detainee.

Jamal added that the detainees are distributed among the governorates in varying numbers, the highest in Amanat Al-Asimah, with 132 victims, followed by Hadramout 130 victims, Taiz 116 victims, Aden 106 victims, Al-Dhalea 64 victims, Shabwa 52 victims, Lahj 43 victims, Al-Hodeidah 42 victims, and Marib 41 victims. Al-Bayda 39 victims, Dhamar 35 victims, Abyan 32 victims, Hajjah 31 victims, Ibb 26 victims, Al-Mahweet 21 victims, Saada 2 victims, Amran 2 victims, and Sana’a 1 victim.

Mwatana for Human Rights provides legal support to victims of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance of individuals detained by various parties. This support is provided through a network of female and male lawyers, in various regions of Yemen, where the organization pursues its endeavors alongside the families of the victims, or on their behalf, after carefully documenting all information about the victim and the incident, based on the informed consent of victims and their families.

The efforts of Mwatana's legal support team focus on ensuring procedural justice for all individuals who come into contact with the law in an effort to ensure that they enjoy all the rights from the moment of detention, through the moment of investigation and defense, the place and conditions of arrest, and concluding with the trial.
