To watch the meetingOn Thursday, January 24, 2019, Mwatana for Human Rights participated in a meeting held by the Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Committee on Development of the European Parliament in Brussels to exchange views on the current human rights and humanitarian situation in Yemen.Radhya Almutawakel, Mwatana’s chairperson, participated in this meeting along with Kamel Jendoubi, Chairperson of the Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen, Rula Jebreal, journalist, author and foreign policy analyst; Arian Sabahi, Ph.D., journalist and lecturer in Politics and Religion at John Cabot University in Rome, and Regina Egle Liotta Catrambone, Co-founder and Director of Migrants Offshore Aid Station (MOAS).In her briefing, Almutawakel highlighted the work of Mwatana in documenting the violations of the parties to the conflict in Yemen since 2014, especially the Saudi and UAE-led coalition and the Ansar Allah armed group (Houthis). She also mentioned the effects of war, the parties to the conflict, and their violations on civilians including starvation.Almutawakel also said that the warring parties continue their violations depending on the absence of accountability and protection of their allies, and called on the European states to stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
