Mwatana Calls for the Protection of Civilians Amid Recent Developments in Hadramawt and Al-Maharah

Mwatana for Human Rights closely monitors the serious developments in Al-Maharah and Hadramawt governorates, as well as in other regions. The organization continues, amidst challenges and dangers in the field, to document any violations affecting women and civilians by any party involved in these developments.

Mwatana calls on all local and regional parties to take all necessary measures to protect women and civilians, and to adhere to the rules of international humanitarian law, international human rights law, the Constitution of the Republic of Yemen, and its national legislation in all circumstances.

Mwatana also highlights the danger of engaging in campaigns that incite violence, fuel hate speech, stir regional, sectarian, and religious strife, and participate in tearing apart the social fabric, thus wasting opportunities for coexistence, national reconciliation, and peace, whether on social media, in the media, on public platforms, or at various public events. Mwatana urges all actors to rationalize public discourse and curb unruly voices.

Mwatana for Human Rights confirms that, based on all experiences, each cycle of conflict among the parties adds new grievances and violations to Yemen's heavy legacy of longstanding injustices. Mwatana reiterates that the only way out of the maze of destructive cycles of conflict is through an inclusive dialogue that achieves a historic national settlement addressing all grievances and violations, ensuring the rights, interests, and aspirations of all Yemeni women and men within the framework of a state of equal citizenship, justice, the rule of law, and political, cultural, social, and intellectual pluralism.
