Mwatana Contributes to the Release of 48 Victims in April 2026

Mwatana for Human Rights stated thatit provided legal support, through its field lawyers, to 454 victimswho experienced arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture. Theorganization successfully contributed to the release of 48 of these victimsduring April 2026.

 

Mwatana for Human Rights providedlegal support through its field lawyers to civilian victims during April 2026 acrossvarious parties, as follows:

222 victims detained by Ansar Allah armed Group (Houthis).

112 victims detainedby the internationally recognized government forcesز

99 victims detained by SouthernTransitional Council (STC).

20 victims detained by the Saudi/UAE-ledCoalition.

One victim Joint forces

 

These victims were held acrossseveral governorates in varying numbers, with the highest concentration in:

-         Ta’iz (68 victims)

-          Sana'a City (61 victims)

-         Hadramawt (52 victims)

-          Aden (51 victims).

-         Ma'rib (30 victims)

-         Hajjah (25 victims)

-         Al-Dali (24 victims).

-         Abyan and Lahj (23 victims each)

-         Shabwah (22 victims)

-         Ibb (18 victims).

-         Al-Hodeidah (14 victims).

-         Dhamar and Al-Bayda (10victims each)

-           Sana'a (7victims).

-          Amran (6 victims each)

-         Al-Mahwit (4 victims)

-          Sa’dah and Al-Maharah (2 victims each).

-         Al-Jawf and Yemeni-Saudi border(one victim each)

 

During April 2026, Mwatana forHuman Rights documented 52 new incidents of violations related to arbitrarydetention, enforced disappearance, and torture, with responsibility attributedas follows:

19 violations by theinternationally recognized government.

18 violations by The Ansar AllahArmed Group (Houthis)

15 violations by the SouthernTransitional Council (STC) forces.

 

Mwatana for Human Rights provideslegal assistance through a network of male and female lawyers in variousregions of Yemen for victims of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance,and torture, targeting individuals by different parties.

 

Mwatana's efforts proceedalongside the families of victims or on their behalf, after meticulousdocumentation of all information related to the victim and the incident, basedon informed consent from the victims or their relatives.

 

The legal support team at Mwatanafocuses on ensuring procedural justice for all individuals who come intocontact with law enforcement agencies or those detained by armed groups thathave become de facto authorities. This is aimed at ensuring that they enjoy alltheir rights from the moment of detention, through the investigation anddefense phases, their detention conditions, and ultimately during the trial.
