Mwatana Contributes to the Release of 40 Victims in July 2026

Mwatana for Human Rights stated that it provided legal support, through its field lawyers, to 485 victims who experienced arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture. The organization successfully contributed to the release of 40 of these victims during July 2026.

Mwatana for Human Rights provided legal support through its field lawyers to civilian victims during July 2026 across various parties, as follows:

242 victims detained by Ansar Allah armed Group (Houthis).

141 victims detained by the internationally recognized government forcesز

 80 victims were detained by the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

 21 victims detained by the Saudi/UAE-led Coalition. 

One victim was detained by Joint forces.

These victims were held across several governorates in varying numbers, with the highest concentration in:

  • Ta’iz (72 victims)
  •  Sana'a City (66 victims)
  • Hadramawt (60 victims)
  •  Aden (49 victims).
  • Ma'rib (32 victims)
  • Hajjah (30 victims).
  •  Shabwah (29 victims)
  • Lahj (25 victims)
  • Al-Dali(22 victims)
  • Ibb(17 victims)
  • Abyan and Al-Hodeidah (15 victims each)
  • Al-Bayda (14 victims).
  • Dhamar (13 victims each)
  •   Sana'a (7 victims).
  • Sa’dah and Amran (6 victims each)
  • Al-Mahwit (3 victims each)
  • Al-Maharah (2 victims).
  • Al-Jawf and Yemeni-Saudi border (one victim each)

During July 2026, Mwatana for Human Rights documented 64 new incidents of violations related to arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture, with responsibility attributed as follows:

34 violations by the internationally recognized government. 

22 violations by The Ansar Allah Armed Group (Houthis).

6 violations by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces.

One by the Saudi/UAE-led Coalition. 

One violation by the  Joint forces.

Mwatana for Human Rights provides legal assistance through a network of male and female lawyers in various regions of Yemen for victims of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture, targeting individuals by different parties. 

Mwatana's efforts proceed alongside the families of victims or on their behalf, after meticulous documentation of all information related to the victim and the incident, based on informed consent from the victims or their relatives. 

The legal support team at Mwatana focuses on ensuring procedural justice for all individuals who come into contact with law enforcement agencies or those detained by armed groups that have become de facto authorities. This is aimed at ensuring that they enjoy all their rights from the moment of detention, through the investigation and defense phases, their detention conditions, and ultimately during the trial.
