Most days feel the same, but Eid remains our warm passage to joy, delight, and a sense of safety. On
these blessed days, Mwatana for Human Rights is pleased to extend its heartfelt congratulations to all
Yemenis, especially, and to Muslims around the world on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha. We pray that
God grants everyone health and well-being, and that He bestows peace and security upon our country
and all nations of the world.
Yes, the days may resemble one another in their monotony, but Eid arrives as a bright light, a moment
when the darkness of sorrow and anxiety begins to lift from our hearts. Everyone, from their own place
in life, strives to welcome it with an open heart to joy, sharing sincere wishes and warm feelings—
even with those they may have never met before.
During Eid, hands are extended in greeting, and souls embrace without barriers or ranks. The artificial
distances between hearts dissolve, and political, sectarian, intellectual, and social differences fade
away. We return to our essence, to our eternal truth, and to our highest shared bond: our humanity.
Yet even amidst these noble emotions that Eid brings, we must urgently turn our thoughts, our hearts,
and our stances toward those whom the cruelty of war and the stripping away of their rights and
dignity have deprived of this joy. We must renew the call to uphold the sanctity of human life and to
guarantee everyone's enjoyment of their fundamental rights—not as a marginal favor or a luxury, but
as a basic necessity of life.
There is no time more fitting than Eid to remember those who are silenced behind prison bars, those
forcibly disappeared without trial or legal justification, and the anguish that grips their hearts and the
hearts of their families as they endure the bitter wait.
There is no truer time than Eid for our conscience to ache over the plight of the displaced—those
uprooted from their land and warmth of home to the bleakness of camps; those who fled their fields,
now barren lands sown only with death, as a result of landmines and remnants of war that have
swallowed thousands of hectares.
And amid the joy of Eid, how can we forget those cut off from their loved ones, stranded before
shuttered airports and blocked roads, forced to take long and perilous detours, clinging to the hope of
reaching crowded land crossings—dreaming only of returning home to spend Eid in the embrace of
their families!
Eid is the perfect moment to renew our solidarity with all victims whose rights have been arbitrarily
denied—in blatant violations condemned by all religions, charters, and traditions.
Let us unite our voices and make this Eid a renewed occasion to reaffirm our commitment to human
rights, to safeguarding human dignity, to protecting every individual from persecution, and to working
together toward a future where all rights are upheld and all freedoms are respected.
